Use by federal agencies of supplements to self-assessments by job candidates increased slightly over the last year, according to a dashboard maintained by the GSA.

Going beyond self-assessments is one of the few Trump administration initiatives in federal personnel being continued in the Biden administration, with the latest data from GSA continuing to show that using additional assessment to pre-certify applicants — ranging from exams to assessment by subject matter experts — results in a higher rate of filling vacancies.

The data show that 12.9 percent of job announcements in June involved multiple assessment methods, up from 12 percent in June 2021. However, that rate had fallen to as low as 7 percent during that time before climbing steadily to the latest level.

However, much of that use involves jobs open only to those who already are federal employees. Of jobs open to the general public, agencies use only self-assessments in 93 percent.
