The Navy has retired the last S-3 Viking sea control aircraft. Seapower Magazine reported that the last Viking departed its base at Naval Station Point Mugu, Calif., on Jan. 11. The aircraft will continue to serve, however. NASA plans to use the Viking as a test platform. Several other fixed-wing and rotor aircraft in the Navy inventory will assume Viking’s missions.
