If I rent out a room for a night to a federal employee can he claim it as lodging?

Can I my brother, a federal employee, rent a room in my house instead of a hotel and claim it on his expense report under GSA policies? If so do I need a EIN number if I don’t do this fewer than 14 days in the year?

You should check the General Travel Regulations (GTR) and your agency’s policies related to travel. Many agencies will allow this (or variations of this theme as long as everything is disclosed. that being said, some agencies are stricter than others so a review of agency policy is in order.
