I’m a 52 year old Air Reserve Technician w/28 years of creditable service and I’m losing my Reserve status due to medical disqualification. According to OPM, the 2021 leave year ends 1 Jan. If I choose to retire on 1 Jan, will I lose my annual leave in excess of 240 hours? Or is it on 2 Jan I’d lose those hours? Can’t get a solid answer from anyone here so your help would be appreciated. Blocked by moderator

Whatever your approved annual leave balance is on the day you leave federal service will be paid out in a lump sum payment. If the leave year ends 01/01/2022 ALL annual leave on the books is payable, even hours over your maximum carryover balance, because you left before the new leave began, which in this example would be 01/02/2022.
