I have a divorce decree that has been approved by OPM and awards my ex-spouse a portion of my retirement. What would be the impact, if any, on her getting her portion if I decide to retire but not take my annuity while I work outside of government? Does her share start when I decide to take mine or does hers begin when I retire? I have over 30 years in. Blocked by moderator

The award to the former spouse cannot commence until you collect your retirement. Your statement "if I decide to retire..." indicates you are taking your retirement benefits, in which case she would begin to collect when you begin your benefits. Blocked by moderator
