Four days apart, both the Washington Navy Yard and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center were disrupted by reports of shootings on each campus, which were later determined to be false alarms. The Navy Yard, where a gunman killed 12 people before law enforcement officers killed him, went into lockdown July 2 from 8 a.m. until around 10:30 a.m., when law enforcement officials found no evidence of a shooter. Walter Reed, now situated on the campus formerly known as Bethesda National Naval Medical Center, Md., was closed mid-morning on July 6 after a report of a single gunshot. Again, law enforcement authorities conducted a thorough search and determined there were no gunshots.
