The Census Bureau has issued a solicitation for 1,200 iPhones to help develop a Bring Your Own Device policy ahead of future surveys. It is transitioning to iPhones because they are the most common smart phone and because Census personnel have developed applications that will work securely only on iOS.Under a brand name justification with the order, Census said it currently manages about 1200 Blackberry devices and that it intends to phasethem out within six months.
