DHS has announced the launch of the 2014 Secretary’s Honors Program (SHP) Cyber Student Volunteer Initiative for college students, through which over 100 unpaid volunteers will be available in support roles at local DHS field offices in over 60 locations across the country.
Created in April, the program provided assignments at Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations computer forensics labs and state and major urban area fusion centers, DHS said.
It said the program has been expanded to include new opportunities at the the Secret Service, the Coast Guard, TSA, the Office of Intelligence and Analysis, the DHS Office of the CIO, as well as additional state and major urban area fusion centers and ICE labs.
The program is specifically designed for current college students pursuing a program of study in a cybersecurity-related field, and assignment areas range from cyber threat analysis to digital forensics to network diagnostics and incident response. Assignments run from spring 2014 throughout the summer.
