The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council’s Institute for Innovation has announced that the EPA and INDUS Corporation received the most votes for the 2014 Igniting Innovation Awards, a new program to recognize solutions, tools, services and programs developed by government and industry to address government IT challenges.

Some 30 finalists attended a “science fair” style event at the Ronald Regan building in Washington DC, in which they demonstrated their solutions. Peer voting among 700 attendees via social media landed federal agencies in six of the top eight spots.

The EPA with INDUS won for the “How’s My Waterway?” application they developed to address citizens’ concerns about local water quality and critical pollution issues.

Federal CIO Steven VanRoekel gave a key note address praising finalists for efforts toward meeting agency mission requirements using technologies such as reuse (looking to existing solutions and capabilities), open data and agile development.
