GSA has announced the first contract awards under a blanket purchase agreement for agile development services through a new contracting vehicle developed by the 18F consulting team.

The BPA is an avenue through which companies that specialize in agile development can offer services to the 18F digital services agency.

According to GSA, the BPA was aimed at companies that work in an agile, user-centered fashion, geared toward rapid prototyping with user-research built into the development process, and developers who work with open source code.

18F is launching the BPA in an “alpha” phase that limits its use to 18F projects only, GSA said, adding that 18F Consulting would review the process and the results in the coming months before creating a “beta” product that will be directly available to the rest of the federal government.

The 16 firms awarded contracts include Acumen Solutions, Semantic Bits, Vencore, and Ventera as well as widely known contractors Booze Allen and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
