The White House is working on guidance intended to ensure cybersecurity measures are consistently applied in federal contracts.
“The increase in threats facing federal information systems demand that certain issues regarding security of information on these systems is clearly, effectively, and consistently addressed in federal contracts,” according to a notice in the Federal Register intended to solicit feedback on draft guidance.
The guidance reportedly will be published on CIO.gov, and is intended to improve cybersecurity protections in federal acquisitions. It comes on the heels of a massive data breach of personal information on federal employees including the contents of security clearance background investigations.
“The threats facing federal information systems have dramatically increased as agencies provide more services online, digitally store data, and rely on contractors for a variety of these information technology services,” says the notice.
