OMB has proposed revisions to the policies for the management of federal information resources.

The changes to Circular A-130, Managing Information as a Strategic Resource – last updated in 2010 – are meant to keep pace with advances in telecommunications and the online economy as well as a raft of legislation and developments on how the federal government handles information, especially personally identifiable information.

“Information technology changes rapidly and the federal workforce managing IT must have the flexibility to address known and emerging threats while implementing continuous improvements,” wrote OMB CIO Tony Scott in announcing the proposal.

The circular “provides general policy for the planning, budgeting, governance, acquisition, and management of federal information resources,” he wrote.

OMB is soliciting public input on the proposed changes here: https://a130.cio.gov/
