The VA has announced it met recently with veteran service organizations to discuss its upcoming IT acquisition to replace its existing medical scheduling software, considered to be part of the problem with the department’s appointment scheduling shortcomings.
It said department leaders and agency IT and health care experts met with leaders from nine VSOs to discuss requirements for the new software, which must seamlessly coordinate care across facilities and enable more accurate scheduling of facilities, clinicians, and administrative support.Solutions also must seamlessly interface with the department’s VistA electronic health record.
The VA said it has a better idea of how to frame the scope of a planned solicitation now. It also recently met with some 98 contractors for an industry day, during which it discussed requirements and tried to gather information about commercial software options.
