Shifting to a web-based electronic claims processing system has led to faster, more accurate and integrated benefits delivery, the VA has said.
It said it now processes 93 percent of veteran disability claims electronically, and that 1.3 million veterans received decisions on their disability compensation and pension claims in fiscal 2014, surpassing last year’s recordby over 150,000 claims.
The department said its disability claims backlog – claims pending for more than 125 days – is down 60 percent from its peak in March 2013. (This was partly the result of mandatory overtime for benefits processing, even during sequestration and while employees in other agencies were being furloughed.)
The VA also said claim accuracy claimed from 83 percent in 2011 to 90 percent today (and 96 percent at the medical issue level).
