GSA’s 18F digital services agency and the US Digital Service – USDS, has published a set of web design standards for the federal government. 18F says it’s a guide for creating beautiful and easy-to-use online experiences.
It’s a welcome addition and will help agencies rapidly stand up web properties or redesign existing ones. It could also help people access government services online by establishing a common look, feel and functionality among a highly variable landscape of websites and applications.
The guide – https://playbook.cio.gov/designstandards/ – includes common UI components and a color palate, for example – which could be used as a baseline for further customization.
