Figures have yet to be released on the number of health insurance enrollments through HealthCare.gov even as it has emerged that fewer than ten individuals successfully signed up on the first day.
The White House refuses to release enrollment statistics until mid November despite requests – including freedom of information act requests filed by news organizations, among others, seeking statistics and greater insight into the decision-making leading up to the botched launch.
According to an HHS blog post, as of October 25 some 700,000 individuals have attempted to signup for health insurance through the site but by all indications just a small percentage have succeeded.
Meetings notes released to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee indicate that after only six individuals signed up on October 1 that just 248 signed up on October 2.
Clearly far more extensive testing should have taken place and it remains to be seen whether problems the site is experiencing can be corrected sufficiently by the Administration’s self-imposed deadline, which is the end of November.
In October 31 testimony Heath and Human Services secretary issued a public apology before a House oversight panel, stating that "we new that in any big, new, complicated system there would be problems," but that they didn’t anticipate problems at the scale that has occurred.
